 Music 101 grew from the vision of Arman Razavi, a long-time purveyor of underground, Chicago nightlife. A seminal player on the club scene since the mid-’80s, Razavi channeled his passion for the party into a viable venture by launching Music 101 in 1999. At the time, he owned and operated Mad Bar, one of Chicago’s most influential underground venues. Part nightclub, part neighborhood bar, Mad Bar became the party prototype that would define the vibe of future Music 101 events and the artists who embrace them. 

 Music 101’s events have earned the reputation as some of the best-spirited and well-attended parties on the underground House scene. Focusing on non-commercial dance music, Music 101 has organized parties for the annual Winter Music Conference in South Beach, along with its own series of hometown events, such as its weekly BBR Monday Social at Debonair Social Club (A continuation of its legendary parties at Green Dolphin Street since 2004). Its weekly Radio Paradiso Saturdays at La Pomme Rouge are a popular mainstay in Chicago’s nightlife. The weekly Stylus Fridays & Purr Saturdays showcased top tier DJs on the global underground house scene. Summer events, such as its annual “DayRa” daytime parties, bridge the easy vibes of the city’s summer time character with the finest local and national music talent. Chicago venues such as Crobar, Le Passage, Red No. 5 and Spybar have also played host to Music 101 events in recent years.

 From the label aspect, Music 101 has more than a half dozen digital tracks slated for release. Underground House powerhouses including Derrick Carter, Ron Carroll, Stacy Kidd, Kenny Carvajal and Vince Lawrence have all signed on board. The company’s combined stature as both a promotion company and record label ensures that Music 101 will continue to influence Chicago’s underground music scene for decades to come.
