Productions to Date

For his solo production work, Mel's technique includes obscure samplings and transformations with original drum programming to create a unique brand of Tech-house that calls upon both his House and Industrial influences. His current productions include a slew of releases on the AfterHours Music label of Chicago. Work in Progress

In the can are two projects Mel has created for upstart label, Music 101. The logical next step for the people behind Mad Bar, Music 101 is preparing to make its debut in Winter 2000. Mel has mixed and co-produced two projects for Music 101. The first project comes via the live band from Paris, Playin For The City, the other, a full vocal with singer/songwriter, Carla Prather of Poi Dog Pondering. Music 101 has also lined up two original projects from Mel for release on vinyl after the label makes it debut. Also in the works is "Climax", the first live mixed CD for Music 101 and Mel, focusing on his three years and running, hugely popular, Saturday night residency at Mad Bar after the same name.

Remixes

In stores currently you will find Mel's stellar dub remix for Arista recording artists Whitney Houston and Deborah Cox, "Same Script Different Cast". The next release on board to receive Mel's dub-work is Def Jam recording artist, Sisqo for the current single, "Incomplete". Be on the lookout for it and more to follow. His work with the Slang Music Group has more major label remixes in store. On the underground tip, Mel has remixed projects with D.J. V & John Redman, Ron Carroll and more. His show reel is evidence of the massive studio time Mel has put in this year.

Super DJ

Mel Hammond is a citywide phenomenon. In Chicago new jacks give him props by imitating his turntable techniques. Having spent several years on the underground circuit, as well as in the limelight of Chicago's most venerated clubs, Mel has influenced countless crews of deejay's and maintains a crossover potential that escapes others. An original Shelter deejay, Mel spent 2 years creating atmosphere for the super club before completing residencies at several nightclubs throughout the city. Today he holds down two resident nights at Mad Bar, one at Lava Lounge and another at Red no. 5 and does numerous guest appearances at other clubs in Chicago, across the country and abroad.
