Natural (M101-005)
Music 101, in continuing to define the present and future of House music, has released another savory selection to add to the menu of dancefloor delectables. One of Chicago's seminal House producers and vocalists, Ron Carroll has put forth a finished product capable of suiting a variety musical tastes. With the release of "Natural", Carroll has constructed a heavenly blended mix with equally palatable vocals, rhythm and beats. Best known in his previous efforts for recording chart-toppers "Lucky Star" and "The Sermon", Carroll proves with "Natural" that his capabilities have only strengthened with maturity. Drawing deep off soul, his personal progression is evident while maintaining a signature sound. Having toured with dance icons Kim English and Frankie Knuckles, and pop stars Destiny's Child, Ron Carroll carries a tremendous musical resume with him. Not to mention a devoted following to date. Side A has the original by the Minister of Sound himself. Carroll exhibits his signature soulful sound underlying a Gospel-esque arrangement of harmonious vocals, a "natural" selection for the DJ and House music enthusiast. Side B is a remix done by Chicago natives, Blak beatniks. This version steps up the tempo, recontextualizing the hooks, all the while retaining the original weight of the groove. It's a more visceral approach than the original, still reaffirming the same altruistic feeling. Number five in the catalog of releases, Music 101, has bestowed upon the aficionados of Chicago House a single worthy of selection. In a growing number of well-produced single releases this effort resounds quality above the quantity of competing pressings. Already having made a statement early on, "Natural" solidifies the label's position as a breeding ground for innovators and noteworthy creators. The positive and energetic vibe running through the original rubs is enough to make this "Natural" an instant classic. But when you add the masterful remix done by the blackbeatniks to it, you have an anthem on your hands. Sample for yourself. Write-Ups: Is off the hook peace Pope (DJ Pope) |
